Hanging Luminary

Spring 2021. Constructed entirely of Bristol paper. 12x12x26.

This piece draws inspiration from Japanese akari structures, or traditional Japanese lamps. The project experiments with the rigid geometry and line-work of modern architects like Frank Gehry and Frank Lloyd Wright. Each layer of the luminary is positioned to create similarly rigid fractals of light and to warp the viewer’s sense of space.
